AVALON’S STORY

My name is Alynn Almeida, and I would to share why I hold a special place in my heart for the BC Children’s Hospital.

When my daughter, Avalon, was three years old, we found out she had a large hole in her heart. We were told that she needed open heart surgery, and we were terrified (as I am sure you can imagine).

If it wasn’t for the reassurance, kindness and compassion of the staff at the Children’s Hospital, I don’t know how we would have survived that time in our life. Somehow, they kept us calm throughout the entire process, especially during the surgery itself, and they were always there to answer our questions and address our concerns.

Without this surgery and the truly excellent care of the hospital staff, I don’t know where we would be today. We will forever be so grateful to the amazing staff for their support, and all that they do for every child and parent.

Today Avalon is a healthy and happy 8-year-old who has a passion for animals, a smile that is contagious and two big brothers that she keeps in line! We are so proud of her!
